Policy work

I (try!) to contribute to the competition policy debate in various platforms and forums. I do so mostly as an independent academic expert and occasionally as a paid expert (disclosures below).

I am a research fellow of the Centre for Economic Policy Research in London as well as a member of the CEPR's Competition Policy Research & Policy Network and AI research policy network.

I co-head The Digital Economics Research Network, a network of academics studying issues related to competition in digital markets, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, and algorithms. It is funded through a sponsored chair in digital economics at UCLouvain, held by Professor Paul Belleflamme. The chair was supported on a one-time basis (2020–2023) by Google and the European Commission’s JRC. Its mission is purely research-driven, with researchers carrying out their work with full academic freedom and autonomy, as guaranteed by UCLouvain.

Disclosures (Complying with CEPR's network guidelines)

Within the last three years (last updated may 2025) - I received research support of over 10.000 Euros from:

  • The European Research Council (ERC advanced grant AI-COMP) and the Italian Ministry of Education (PRIN 2017 and 2022).

  • The Digital Economics Research Network (DERN)
